Love Songs, Tap Dancing Come to NOCCA

Gulf Coast Theatre on Tap is giving New Orleanians a chance to prolong their celebrations of love this year with Love Taps: An Evening of Romance and Rhythm.  The award-winning show is coming to NOCCA for a limited two-weekend revival performance February 19-21 and February 26-28.

Emmy Award and two-time Big Easy Award winning artistic director and principal choreographer Heidi Malnar directs this intimate, cabaret-style show, which delves into the universal truths of love and rhythm to show how they connect humanity as one.  Local New Orleans artist Ainsley Matich of Ainsley Matich and The Broken Blues (AMATBB) accompanies Malnar as Musical Director, along with Lead Vocalist Arséne Delay of the renowned Boutte family.  All three leading ladies have worked together on every Theatre on Tap project since the company’s beginning in 2014.

Set on a unique 3-sided stage, Love Taps promises audiences an immersive evening of rhythmic entertainment.  The show features a diverse array of music, from a showcase by Theatre on Tap’s Youth Ensemble to AMATBB and Delay originals, Chet Baker, Blossom Dearie, Diana Krall, and Bruno Mars.  Special guest tap performer Nora Clark, founder of Tap That Brass band, will appear, as will Adrianne Mitchell of Jazz City Tap Fest and Kelly School of Dance with a student-led work.

This impassioned blend of performances explores stories of fantasy, budding romance, finding courage out of grief, the strength of friendship, and the hope and optimism of our youth to create an ideal show for those seeking a belated Valentine’s Day activity or just a unique musical experience.

Love Taps will run for two weekends only at the Nims Black Box Theater at the New Orleans Center for Creative Arts. Tickets ($18-$35) are available at theatreontap.com.
