Starting at 1 p.m., the parade of Mardi Gras Indians will begin at Washington Avenue and LaSalle Street, proceed left at Martin Luther King Blvd, left at S Galvez Avenue, and take Washington Avenue to finish at Taylor Park.

St. Joseph’s Day is traditionally the second most important day of the year for the Mardi Gras Indian tribes. The official St. Joseph’s parades began in 1969 and were moved from Saturday night to Sunday afternoon in 1970. It is usually the last time the pretty suits will be worn publicly before they are put aside for next year’s costume. In addition to Uptown’s daytime festivities, downtown tribes will celebrate Saturday night by the Broad Street and Esplanade Avenue Intersection.
