Mardi Gras Photos: From Krewe du Vieux to Fat Tuesday in the French Quarter

Photographer Kim Welsh was everywhere this Carnival season. From big parades like Krewe du Vieux, Muses, Orpheus, Proteus, and Zulu; to smaller parades like ‘tit Rex, Barkus and the Red Beans & Rice parade, she managed to find time to shoot beautiful photos capturing whatever part of the spirit of Mardi Gras can possibly be conveyed outside the flesh. She offered a different side of the chaos seen by all, with photos from a Cajun Courir de Mardi Gras in Church Point, just northwest of Lafayette, and with intimate shots of Big Chief Victor Harris, Spirit of Fi Yi Yi sewing the suit he would wear on Mardi Gras day. And finally, there’s Fat Tuesday in the French Quarter, full of the color, music, and costumes that make Mardi Gras day in New Orleans the best of the year.
