Marigny Opera House announces return of smash show, “Book of Saints”

A reprise of “Book of Saints” the critically acclaimed show that debuted in New Orleans in 2017, will return to Marigny Opera House for four more crowd-pleasing performances. Audiences cheered and rawred at the initial performance two years ago, and nothing less is expected this year. A fourth performance was added to the Marigny Opera Ballet’s fifth season schedule as fans chased after season tickets.  The shows will take place from Thursday, March 21 to Sunday, March 24.

Dave Hurlbert, producer and librettist, has created the ambitious production “Book of Saints” in hopes of bringing performing artists of all disciplines together. In admiration of Diaghilev and Stravinsky, who dreamed of producing a ballet based on Russian icons, the production is an attempt to highlight the lives of Saints Teresa, Sebastian, and Francis.

With choreography by NYC’s Teresa Fellion and an original score by New Orleans-based composer Tucker Fuller, “Book of Saints” is arguably one of the most ambitious productions to date at the Marigny Opera Ballet.  Francis Scully, conductor of the show, will further impress audiences by melding the show’s music and voice with help from his New Resonance Chamber Orchestra. They are again joined by the vocal ensemble Krewe de Voix under the direction of Paul Weber.

Gambit’s 2018 Tribute to the Classical Arts recognized “Book of Saints” with two major awards — Best Dance Presentation and Best New Classical Music Performance. With high expectations for the revival and a long past of success, “Book of Saints” will be a performance that brings a crowd to their feet to cheer for more.

“Book of Saints” will be presented at the Marigny Opera House Thursday (March 21) and Sunday (March 24) at 7 p.m. with performances Friday (March 22) and Saturday (March 23) at 8 p.m. Tickets are available online now here.
