Master P to Release Video Game Set in New Orleans

New Orleans rap mogul and entrepreneur Percy Miller–who you probably know as Master P–has announced his latest project, an upcoming video game set in his hometown of New Orleans.

Titled Get Money, the game will allow players to “dive into a modern street culture of music and real life adventures that takes place in the City of New Orleans.” Players will be able to choose male or female characters from a variety of backgrounds, including villains, cops, hustlers, bosses, entertainers and more.

Evidently, the No Limit Records founder and New Orleans rap icon began working on the project six years ago, and originally reached out to a number of pro athletes about investing in the game. Those athletes’ financial advisors weren’t interested in the project, but Miller set out on his own anyway, enlisting a team of Korean game developers to help make his vision a reality.

Get Money will be put out by a company called GMV Games, and is scheduled for released at some point in 2018. If the company’s press materials are any indication, it sounds like the game will have similarities to the massively popular Grand Theft Auto franchise, which grossed over $2 billion with its last release, Grand Theft Auto V.

“Why are we not benefitting from this multi-billion dollar industry that has been created off of our lifestyle?,” Miller writes in a press release. “We have to expand our mind to technology, it is the new way to sell music.”

According to its website, Get Money will be the first African-American minority owned technology console game. It will be be available via Playstation, Xbox, PC and mobile, and will include an online multiplayer component.

A teaser trailer for Get Money was released yesterday, but has since been removed from YouTube.

Get Money won’t be the first crime-centric video game to take place in New Orleans. Well, at least not the first to take place in a faux New Orleans. As previously reported, the third game in the popular Mafia series will be set in 1968 in a town called “New Bourdeaux,” a locale that is clearly based on New Orleans and other parts of Louisiana. The game is slated for release on Friday, October 7.
