Mike Pence Plane Fiasco Leads to Cancellation of Questlove’s New Orleans Show

An incident involving Vice Presidential candidate Mike Pence’s airplane indirectly led to the cancellation of Questlove and Soul Sister’s DJ set at Tipitina’s on Friday night.

The iconic The Roots drummer was forced to call off his late night throwdown at Tipitina’s after his flight from New York failed to depart on time. Evidently, the delayed flight was a residual effect of Thursday’s mishap, in which a plane carrying Donald Trump’s running mate skidded off the runway while landing at LaGuardia Airport.

The New York City airport was briefly closed following the fiasco, with one of the runways remaining shut down for a number of hours. Delays reverberated throughout the region as a result of the closures, creating the conditions that kept Questlove from making his way to New Orleans.

Questlove posted an apology and an explanation of the situation—along with a clip from 1970s sitcom Good Times-–via Instagram on Friday evening. As noted on Tipitina’s Facebook page, the show will eventually be rescheduled but ticket refunds are currently being issued at their point of purchase.
