New Orleans Film Festival Highlights, Sunday October 17

Today is Louisiana Day at the New Orleans Film Festival, with much of the day’s screenings dedicated to films that feature locals as either the creators or subjects. Bury the Hatchet and Land of Opportunity, highlighted yesterday, are both showing again today, in addition to the Canal Street Madam, about the infamous former brothel owner Jeannete Maier; Conversations with Artists, which focuses heavily on New Orleans artists; Haynesville, about the repercussions of an oil field found in the Northern Louisiana town; and John Kennedy Toole: Omega Point, about the author of Confederacy of Dunces (no trailer found, showing 12 p.m. at Prytania Theatre). At the Contemporary Arts Center at 6:30 p.m., a series of short films by Louisiana directors will be screened, with six shorts ranging from six to 35 minutes in length. The day concludes with a party at 12 Bar, featuring performances by DJ Brice Nice and the 101 Runners with Monk Boudreaux.
