Ogden Celebrates Mardi Gras with annual King Cake Walk and Cocktails at the O

The Ogden Museum of Southern Art will host its annual “King Cake Walk and Cocktails at the O” on Tuesday, February 4 from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. to kick off the Mardi Gras season and support the museum’s educational programming.

All proceeds from the event will go towards maintaining the Ogden’s educational programs such as tours, school outreach, children’s day camps, and free admission family days. Ogden Director of Education, Ellen Balkin, says “We are so excited for our first fundraiser dedicated to supporting Ogden Museum educational programming. Since 2003, the Museum has strived to ensure equal access to the arts for all, presenting innovative programs designed to bring art and people together to enhance the lives of children and adults in the Greater New Orleans area.”

Attendees will have the chance to try delicious king cakes from some of New Orleans best bakeries. Bittersweet Confections, Breads on Oak, Cake Cafe and Bakery, Leo’s Bread, Levee Baking Company, Loretta’s Authentic Pralines, Randazzo’s, Rouse’s, Sweet Life Bakery, and Tartine will all be showcasing their king cakes. Guests can vote for their favorite king cake and two winners, “Audience’s Choice” and “Education Team’s Choice”, will be announced. The winning bakeries will receive free admission passes in addition to family memberships awarded to the bakers.

Along with sweet treats, there will be a raffle that offers guests the chance to win art, summer camp admission, and Ogden memberships. There will be a craft table where guests of all ages can participate in Mardi Gras inspired crafts. Vendors including Alligator Pear Goods, Elektra Cosmetics, Fringe + Co, and Her FX Masks will be at the event selling Mardi Gras themed goods. The night will be accompanied by the musical performances of Amelia EarHawts and Streetcar Strutters.

Tickets for the King Cake Walk are $20 for Ogden members and $25 for the general public. Each event ticket includes one complimentary drink ticket, and those who purchase their tickets online, in-advance of the event will receive one additional drink ticket.
