Paris baker Apollonia Poilâne will grace NOLA with presence (and bread)

Famed Paris baker Apollonia Poilâne will grace the Crescent City with her presence (and bread) this Sunday, November 3, at Bar Marilou. An apéritif is scheduled from 4-6 p.m. in celebration of her new book, Poilâne: Secrets of the World-Famous Bread Bakery. Tickets are $40 and include the book, a Bar Marilou classic cocktail, and bites from the cookbook including fresh breads straight from her bakery in Paris. This is the first and only time Poilâne breads will be available in New Orleans. Suddenly I feel like calling out sick from my other job on Sunday. The things I do for bread.

“Bringing Poilâne to Bar Marilou in New Orleans will be a special moment for me” said Apollonia. “While it will be my first time in New Orleans, it’s a city that has long captured my imagination. Bread has always been a way of bringing people together. In New Orleans, they seem to get that. Whether it’s through po-boys or king cakes (or a “Galette de Rois” as we call it in France), it’s a way of building community. When you feed someone well, you’re feeding not only their body but their soul. It’s a communal thing. It’s a way of life. I’m hoping this event will not only be a chance for me to share my traditions, but to experience some of New Orleans’ best as well.”

The book will be one of your new kitchen staples, and out right in time to get in a few practice rounds so you can impress guests during the upcoming holidays. In her debut book, Apollonia breaks down not only the poetry of bread making but will also makes you appear to be a trained patisserie by sharing recipes for Poilâne’s world-renowned tarts, pastries, and butter cookies. Apollonia is a third-generation baker and owner of  the world famous boulangerie in Paris, founded by her grandfather in 1932. Like most great cookbooks, hers includes more than recipes. The book details how a young Apollonia at the age of only 18 took over the business after the tragic loss of her parents.

The Saints have a bye week this weekend, so I know you don’t have any plans. To purchase tickets, click here.
