Photos: Fesstoration Ribbon Cutting

Professor Longhair’s newly renovated house on Terpsichore Street was officially unveiled to the public this afternoon. Professor Longhair’s daughter Pat Byrd tearfully cut the gold ribbon across the front door as the Stooges Brass Band filled the air with her late father’s music.

This “Fesstoration” was a joint effort between by Project Homecoming, the Tipitina’s Foundation, and the United Way of Southeast Louisiana, and took more than one year to complete.

Now that the house is fully renovated, Byrd and her son Ardell D. Hilliard will move in, and a small shrine to Professor Longhair at the home will be open to the public. Selections of Professor Longhair pictures and artifacts were on display at the ribbon cutting ceremony.
