The French Quarter venue opened its doors to an eager and very eclectic audience that quickly filled the room and stood in anticipation of a what was a nostalgic trip for some, and just a good New Orleans-style night of partying for others.

After an opening act by Lafayette-based indie rock band Brass Bed, the Lost Bayou Ramblers took the stage and proceeded to warm up the crowd with their familiar, energetic Cajun sound, led by fiddler (and beer brewer) Louis Michot and accordionist and lap steel player Andre Michot.

To the great joy of an already well-entertained crowd, the emblematic Irish rock’n’roll star Spider Stacy surfaced from behind the red curtain to spice up the Cajun with his touch of Celtic punk flavor.

It didn’t take long for Meschiya Lake to appear and join the fiery bunch for a few songs, starry-eyed over the opportunity to perform next to one of her musical heroes. “Am I the only one who can’t believe this just happened?” she shouted to the crowd after singing the Pogues’ hit “Fairytale Of New York.”

The audience was seemingly not okay with letting that unique performance of international folk-punk come to an end, and firmly demanded an encore after the musicians first put their instruments down, around 1 a.m. Stacy emerged again, followed by the Ramblers and re-ignited the fire that no one that night was ready to put out. One encore seemed to be satisfying for some, as they left the venue to a group of more avid fans and newcomers. Evidently, the musicians made yet another appearance on stage for a few songs before leaving again, only to be called right back to the stage. The show went on until around  2 a.m., leaving large smiles to accompany the exhaustion on everyone’s face.
