Cratediggers Rejoice! Record Raid Coming To New Orleans Jazz Museum

Looking for some new vinyl to add to your collection? Rejoice, because Record Raid is back. On Sunday, March 25 from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m., the New Orleans Jazz Museum at the Old US Mint, record vendors from far and wide are coming to town to satisfy local music lovers’ cravings. The record show is bringing vendors from all across the Gulf to sell LP records, CDs, cassettes, and more.

Record Raid started in 2010 as the WTUL record fair, later to be named RECORD RAID and run as a non-for-profit LLC. The event happens quarterly, with record shows which “welcome all forms of recorded media from all vintages and musical styles.” It’s remained a one-of-a-kind event in Louisiana and plans to expand in the future to Baton Rouge and Metairie. Record Raid has been New Orleans’ largest record show since 2010, attracting on average 300-400 customers. Several of its original vendors have since opened up their own stores including Euclid Records NOLA, Disko Obscura, Lafayette’s Lagniappe Records and Mobile Records in Alabama.

Record Raid vendors are dedicated to representing all the diverse and eclectic musical tastes of their clients. Although the location has changed over the years, the show’s goal of bringing together New Orleans’ music lovers has remained intact. Record Raid organizer Hunter King says, “My motivation for starting Record Raid stemmed from my own experience learning about the music of New Orleans and Louisiana from simply listening to as many records as I can. When the opportunity to work with the New Orleans Jazz Museum presented itself, it was such a perfect fit mission-wise that I had to pursue it.”

The New Orleans Jazz Museum is located at 400 Esplanade Avenue. Admission to the show is free– records, of course, are not! Luckily, it’s 2018, and credit card squares are expected to abound. Early birds who want a jumpstart on the merchandise can pay $5 and start diggin’ at 10 a.m.
