Chicago's Lowdown Brass Band will perform with New Orleans bounce artist Ricky B

Bounce pioneer Ricky B to perform with Chicago’s LowDown Brass Band

Ricky B is a towering figure in New Orleans hip-hop, for those in the know. Hailing from the 7th Ward, he put on for the city in the 1990s, recording bounce tracks like “Shake Fa Ya Hood” and “Y’All Holla.” He’s still active, having released the seven-song Foy Park EP earlier this year.

For his latest endeavor, Ricky B partnered with the high-energy second-line inspired LowDown Brass Band on a new single and forthcoming appearance in New Orleans, at Three Keys inside the Ace Hotel. On Friday, November 9, they’ll combine the authentic sound of New Orleans bounce with LDB’s ” powerful brass frontline of trumpets, trombones, saxophones, with a funky backline of drums and sousaphone.” LBD is loved for blending not only the New Orleans sound, but also the infectious rhythms of reggae and classic touches of jazz.

Plus, the rare performance on November 9 will include a set from four-piece funk-soul outfit Chapter:SOUL, New Orleans natives who blend soulful vocals with all that brass.

LowDown Brass Band featuring special guests Ricky B and Chapter:SOUL kicks off at 9 p.m. on November 9 (doors at 8 p.m.). The event is free with RSVP here.
