Dumpstaphunk, Soul Rebels, Revivalists to join Rolling Stones on stage

The Rolling Stones are imbuing their upcoming summer tour with plenty of New Orleans music. Despite having to cancel an appearance at the New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, the venerated rock ‘n’ roll group will pay homage to the city with a handful of local musicians as supporting acts.

When the Stones hit the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans for the North American “No Filter” Tour on July 14, Ivan Neville’s Dumpstaphunk and The Soul Rebels will perform opening sets. Music fans will likely be unsurprised by this choice in supporting talent; Ivan Neville has appeared on both The Stones’ Voodoo Lounge LP and on the keys in Keith Richards’ X-pensive Winos group. Together with fellow Dumpstaphunk members Tony Hall, Nick Daniels III and Ian Neville, Ivan Neville will lend The Rolling Stones some unadulterated New Orleans funk. As for The Soul Rebels, the hip-hop brass band will deliver a contemporary, youthful New Orleans component to the evening.

A few days later, on The Stones’ July 19 tour stop in Jacksonville, FL, The Revivalists will appear as the opening act.
