Scott Weiland, of Past Voodoo Headliners Stone Temple Pilots and Velvet Revolver, Dies

By now you’ve probably heard about the passing of Scott Weiland, ex-frontman for alternative rock powerhouse Stone Temple Pilots. The singer, who was known for his wild on-stage antics and battles with drug addiction, died in his sleep on a tour bus in Bloomington, MN yesterday at the age of 48. He was on the road with his new project Scott Weiland & The Wildabouts, who were scheduled to play Tipitina’s on December 13.

Weiland headlined New Orleans’ Voodoo Experience on three occasions–twice with Stone Temple Pilots (2000 and 2008) and once with Velvet Revolver (2004). According to NOLA.com, the 2000 performance took an interesting turn when Weiland’s bandmates surprised him with a birthday cake, prompting the singer to throw off his clothes and run to his tour bus naked.

Weiland is survived by his wife, Jame Wachtel, and his children, Noah and Lucy.
