New Orleans all-stars to rally for Spencer Bohren benefit concert

Anders Osborne, George Porter Jr., Johnny Vidacovich, Raw Oyster Cult and more will perform a benefit show in support of Spencer Bohren.

Bohren is currently in recovery from a Stage IV prostate cancer diagnosis first announced last November. The longtime musician, who’s been a part of the music scene in New Orleans since the 1970s, has opted to take a holistic healing approach. According to his son, Andre, most of his symptoms have disappeared and Spencer is “doing remarkably well.”

However, his diagnosis has nonetheless made it impossible for Spencer to tour and he’s been home-ridden since his diagnosis. As such, some of his musician friends are getting together to raise money to help offset his loss of income.

“Singing for Spencer” takes place at Tipitina’s on Thursday, January 31. Also performing are Johnny Sketch & the Dirty Notes, Sweet Crude, Rory Danger & the Danger Dangers, Tommy Malone, John Magnie, Darcy Malone and Mike Doussan.

The event will also feature a silent auction, including a painting by Frenchy, tickets to future shows at Tipitina’s and the 610 Stompers Debutante Ball, jewelry, Bed & Breakfast stays and much more. Food will be available for purchase outside, with all proceeds going to the cause.
