Yesterday, the Stooges Brass Band released a second line version of Donny Hathaway’s “This Christmas”, a cover they street-tested at the Big Nine Social Aid & Pleasure Club parade on Sunday afternoon. The Stooges are offering the track as a free download in exchange for an email address.

“This Christmas” has been a holiday classic ever since it was released in 1970, but this Winter season it’s been particularly hot. After making appearances in our editor Alex Rawls’ Christmas playlist, it showed up in a perfectly-executed bounce remix by the folks who bounced out Adele’s “Rollin’ in the Deep”, and formed the basis of an R&B song featuring Kourtney Heart—“Shake That Jingle Bell” by newcomer Kris Baptiste.
