Tara O’Grady at Tréo on March 14

New Orleans will get another dose of Irish music when Tréo hosts Irish singer Tara O’Grady on March 14, 2014 at 7 pm. The event is sponsored by Irish Network New Orleans and will feature networking opportunities before the show starts, according to Tréo and Finn McCool’s Irish Pub owner Pauline Patterson.

“The show is called ‘A Celt in the Cotton Club,” Patterson said. “O’Grady is an Irish jazz musician, so she’s going to be singing some jazz tunes and some blues tunes. She’s sort of like an Irish Ella Fitzgerald.”

Patterson said O’Grady’s classic looks and style are a perfect fit for the Tréo, a bar she opened with her husband Stephen Patterson on Tulane Avenue as part of an effort to revitalize the area, which is seeing a construction boom at Claiborne Avenue as several new hospitals are built even as seedy bars and motels still line the intersection with Carrollton Avenue.

“Tréo is the Irish word for direction, so it’s a completely different direction that myself and Stephen are going in,” she said. “It also stands for the direction that we want Tulane Avenue to take. We want people to take a chance and do something more classy that will stand the test of time.”

O’Grady will perform upstairs at Tréo among artwork by local artists, and the bar on the ground floor will feature speciality drinks for the occasion. The fact that it is St. Patrick’s Day weekend makes the concert all the more special, Patterson said.

“We want people to go over to Finn’s and have a good time early and then come to Tréo for a classier experience in the evening,” she said. “We just can’t wait to have Tara O’Grady play. It’s really going to be a special evening.”
