Third Annual New Orleans Daiquiri Festival Can’t Be Stopped

National Rum Day already happened last weekend…and if you think that makes any difference, you don’t live in New Orleans. So nobody should be complaining that the New Orleans Daiquiri festival, originally set for last weekend, will now be happening this Saturday.

The festival was postponed at last minute last weekend (originally scheduled for August 17), due to permit issues. But after dealing with lawyers, City Hall, and the Louisiana Office for Alcohol and Tobacco Control, Daiquiri Festival director and founder Jeremy Thompson was able to reschedule the event for this Saturday, August 24.

Along with the libations there’ll be live music throughout the day with bounce star Sissy Nobby, local favorite The Stooges Brass Band, and up-and-coming R&B act Missippi Rail Company. There will also be pop-up DJ sets from some of New Orleans’ best, including Mod Dance Party, Alligator Chomp Chomp, Heatwave, The Birthday Party, Hotbox and more.

In addition to all this music, soul food and barbecue will be provided by We’ve Got Soul and Squeal BBQ. And then of course there are the drinks: There will be three on-site daiquiri shops featuring six frozen drinks made with fresh juices and Old New Orleans Rum and several drinks that feature a Hochstadter’s Slow and Low Rock and Rye Float. Plus, fave locavore T-shirt company, Defend New Orleans has an official Daiquiri Festival tee on deck for those of us that would not dare see the potent slushies ever leave good ole’ New Orleans: Defend the Daiquiri.

The festival will be held at the Michalopoulos Studio on Elysian Fields and will last from 12 noon to 9 p.m. (Studio owner, James Michalopoulos is also the proprietor of Old New Orleans Rum, a festival presenting partner.) Those who bought tickets online for last Saturday will receive a free drink ticket for the inconvenience. If you already purchased a ticket but are unable to attend this Saturday, contact [email protected].

Tickets to the 3rd Annual New Orleans Daiquiri Festival are $5 for general admission and $60 for VIP.
