Trio of Crawfish Events Kick off on Saturday, May 10

Three festivals built around boiled crawfish are all taking place on Saturday, May 10, making it one of the best days to eat your weight in fresh boiled crawfish.

The third annual Crawfish Mambo festival on Saturday, May 10, at The Cove on University of New Orleans’ Lakefront Campus will feature than 30 four-member boil teams will compete for the “Best Tasting Crawfish” competition.

Each team will cook a minimum of 10 sacks of crawfish. The festivities begins at 11 a.m. and end at 7 p.m., and tickets are $20 in advance or $25 at the door.

Seafood & Music Festival

The Seafood & Music Festival is back for its third annual celebration at Maison du Lac on Lakeshore Drive from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m.

The city’s finest food and music will come together for this annual celebration of the good times that can only be found in New Orleans. Festival-goers can enjoy unlimited boiled crawfish and shrimp, and chicken and sausage jambalaya.

James Andrews will perform from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m., and Mia Borders will take the stage from 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. There will also be a live auction from 7 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Since the launch of the event, the Seafood & Music Festival raised more than $20,000 for TeamSmile, which went to helping underprivileged children in New Orleans receive free oral health care.

Zatarain’s Hosts World’s Largest Crawfish Boil

To celebrate its 125th anniversary, Zatarain’s will host the “World’s Largest Crawfish Boil” in Champions Square from noon to 6 p.m.

More than 25,000 pounds of crawfish will be boiled during the event and will be sold to attendees for $3.00 per serving. The event is open to the public and all food and beverage proceeds will be donated directly to Second Harvest Food Bank.

Legendary New Orleans funk-rock bands Big Sam’s Funky Nation and Flow Tribe will provide free musical entertainment.

Officials will be on hand to certify the event in such categories as “Largest Attendance at a Crawfish Boil in a Single Day”, “Largest Amount of Pounds Boiled at a Crawfish Boil in a Single Day,” based on current projections.
