Uncle Lionel Jazz Funeral Procession: Route and Map

After more than a week of celebrating the life of “Uncle” Lionel Batiste, who passed away Sunday, July 8, the final send-off is taking place on Friday, with a funeral procession starting at the Mahalia Jackson Theater, following his funeral service there. Viewing for the beloved bass drummer begins at 9 a.m. Friday at the Mahalia, followed by services at 11 a.m. When the services conclude, the procession will leave from the Theater and wind through the Treme neighborhood Batiste once called home, ending at Hunter’s Field where St. Bernard Avenue meets North Claiborne and the I-10 overpass. Stops will be made at Joe’s Cozy Corner, the Candlelight Lounge, and Ernie K-Doe’s Mother-in-Law Lounge. Here’s the map of the full route below:
