Hometown badass performer, Valerie Sassyfras, is garnering nationwide buzz for several reasons. She’s gone viral, she’s appeared on Ellen Degeneres’ daytime talk show and she’s an all-around personality primed for the spotlight. Adored for her theatrical performance style and inimitable personal brand, she will reach a career milestone this Friday while opening for a Grammy-winning band.
On September 14, Portugal. The Man will headline The Sugar Mill, where they’ll be joined by Los Angeles quartet Chicano Batman. Just announced is the addition of Sassyfras. She’ll be joined by her Sasshay Dancers for what promises to be an electrifying opening set.
In a 2016 interview with OffBeat, Sassyfras said “All sorts of things inspire me: people, places, events, songs. I never know where inspiration is going to come from. It depends on my mood. I’m inspired by artists that really have their stuff together. That can really put on a good show and be theatrical. That’s what I look for when I go see people play. I want to see them do more than just stand there and play their instrument.”
Portugal. The Man will be preforming at The Sugar Mill in New Orleans on September 14, with doors opening at 8 p.m. Tickets are available online at www.hepcatentertainment.com.
