Warren Haynes to lead all-star tribute to Little Feat’s “Waiting for Columbus” during Jazz Fest

Guitar master Warren Haynes and acclaimed producer Don Was will team up to celebrate the 40th anniversary of Little Feat’s iconic live album Waiting for Columbus at the Saenger Theatre on Saturday, May 6.

Billed as “New Orleans Is Waiting For Columbus,” the show will feature Haynes (vocals/guitar), Was (bass), Jamey Johnson (vocals/guitar), Dave Malone (vocals/guitar), John Medeski (keys), Terence Higgins (drums) and Mark Mullins (horns). Many more special guests will be added in the coming weeks.

Haynes and Was have made putting on tribute shows during Jazz Fest something of a tradition in recent years. This next one is being produced by Blackbird Presents, the company behind 2016’s “The Last Waltz New Orleans,” 2015’s “Nevilles Forever” and 2014’s “The Musical Mojo of Dr. John” tribute shows, all of which also featured Was (Haynes was there in 2016 and 2014 as well).

Originally released in 1977, Waiting for Columbus reached platinum status and remains the best-selling album of Little Feat’s career. The record features some of the band’s most recognizable tunes, including “Dixie Chicken,” “Willin’” and “Fat Man In The Bathtub.” The album has been the subject of numerous tributes over the years, most notably a 2010 Halloween concert from jam band titans Phish.

Tickets for New Orleans Is Waiting For Columbus will go on sale Friday, March 31 at 10am.
