White Linen Night Hits Town This Weekend

If the words “Epic Vodka Ginger Mint Lemonade” don’t tempt you to get out on a Saturday night, you’re either on the wagon or you don’t really live in New Orleans. This five-word wonder is the official cocktail of this year’s White Linen Night, the annual arts/music/food/drink event presented this Saturday by the Contemporary Arts Center. The event, sponsored by Whitney’s, happens in multiple spots in and around the CAC (at 900 Camp Street).

Art exhibits will be on display in more than two dozen neighboring galleries. The CAC will unveil a new exhibit, “Tank Drama: Collaborations From the Wet Grave,” in the courtyard of the Hotel Modern (2 lee Circle). The CAC’s current exhibits will also be up, including “ANTHROPOMORPHIZER !!”—a set of phantasmal puppet creations by Miss Pussycat, also known as a local musician. Also notable will be the performance piece “Memoirs of the Sisterhood—Chapter 4, Sacred Trails,” which combines an installation, film, and choreography; plus live music by eclectic cellist Helen Gillet.

Further live music will happen on three stages, featuring funk and blues from Ernie Vincent & the Top Notes, contemporary soul from Erica Falls, and jazz/swing from the Hot Club of New Orleans Quartet. Food and cocktails will be available from more than two dozen venues including GW Fins, Saucy’s BBQ, the Creole Creamery and more. Main festivities ware from 6-9pm and the night wraps up with an “after-linen” night at the Modern’s elegant cocktail bar, Belocq.

Admission is $10 and advance tickets are available now. Creative white-linen dress is of course highly encouraged.
