WIN TICKETS:
Krewe of Boo’s SpookFest 2013
with Flowtribe, Pimps of Joytime, More

If there was an ultimate krewe that rolls during Halloween in New Orleans, it would be the Krewe of Boo. This Saturday, October 26 is your chance to join New Orleans’ ultimate Halloween krewe,  and to take in in the seventh annual Krewe of Boo parade and party with some of the city’s quirkiest krewes to the sound of Flow Tribe and the Pimps of Joytime at Mardi Gras World’s Spook Fest.

The Krewe of Boo parade rolls through the Vieux Carré on Saturday, October 26.

Halloween is undoubtedly one of the city’s favorite holidays. Since its inaugural parade in 2007, the Krewe of Boo has pulled some of the most impressively ghoulish floats to date through the streets of the French Quarter, decked with wicked characters and themed throws. Brian Kern of the famous Blaine Kern Studios is the host behind the charade.

However, like most of New Orleans’ best parades, it’s the krewe members that make the party. Giant, fabulous floats are fun, but the life of the party is most certainly going to be found in what sub-krewes like the Camel Toe Lady Steppers, the 610 Stompers, the Bearded Oysters, the Cherry Bombs or the Skins N Bonez bring out Saturday night. Other krewes also set to roll this year include the Muff-A-Lottas, the the Fright Riders, the Organ Grinders, the Urban Cowboys, the Pussyfooters, the Cajun Shriners, the Dragons and Tap Dat. Bands include the One Mind Brass Band and the McMain High School Marching Band, with more to be announced.

Flow-Tribe-crazy

Party-rockers Flowtribe headline Spook Fest on Saturday night.

Unlike many Mardi Gras krewes, though, Krewe of Boo is open to anyone that can afford to make a costume and buy a bag of throws, so it’s not too late to put together your best hodge-podge alter-ego this week, cough up a few coins for some beads and choose which of the quirky krewes you want to roll with. If parading isn’t your thing, there’s always the official afterparty at Mardi Gras World (1380 Port of New Orleans Place) where New Orleans’ own party-rockers, Flowtribe (who are often costumed even when it’s not Halloween) and Brooklyn’s funksters, the Pimps of Joytime (one of the few non-NOLA bands that pack the house every time they’re in town) will perform. With a line-up like that, musically speaking, this may be Saturday’s destination Halloween party.

The parade kicks-off at 6:30 p.m. and the afterparty at 8 p.m. on Saturday, October 26. Krewe of Boo member sign-up is open online, and afterparty tickets are also available online or at the door for $25 general admission or $75 VIP. More Info: www.kreweofboo.com
