In the cover story of our October 2010 issue of OffBeat, Rosalie Cohn profiles a few of the rising stars in the new generation of New Orleans brass bands: the TBC, Young Fellaz and Baby Boyz brass bands. Led by 15-year-old trumpeter Glen Hall, III, a cousin of Trombone Shorty, Baby Boyz has been quickly made a name for themselves around town after only 3 years of playing together. At a photo shoot at the Superdome for the cover story, OffBeat art director Elsa Hahne caught an impromptu performance by the Baby Boyz on video, including their rendition of “Halftime (Stand Up and Get Crunk).”

Tonight, the Baby Boyz hit the stage at Tipitina’s on a brass-heavy bill that also includes the One Mile Brass Band, with the TBC Brass Band headlining and the We Are One and Young Fellaz brass bands celebrating releases of their CDs. The show starts at 10 p.m. and there is no cover—it’s part of the Tipitina’s Foundation’s Free Friday Series.
