Blues guitarist Kipori “Baby Wolf “ Woods’ weekly 5-8pm Wednesday evening gigs at Irvin Mayfield’s Jazz Playhouse has quietly become one of the most entertaining gigs in the city. Prior to Katrina, Kipori Woods was well on his way to becoming one of New Orleans’ top act. Though he was derailed in his return, his recent album Blues Gone Wild puts him right back in the mix.

In OffBeat’s current issue you’ll see a shot of a dapper Woods, axe in hand, sipping a Jack and Coke in the article “Hotel Bars: The Classic Formula.”

Here’s a video of Woods delivering a smoking acoustic rendition of the Jimi Hendrix classic “Red House” at the Ocean Springs, Mississippi stomp, The Shed Barbeque and Blues Joint.

In February, the 25,000 square-foot landmark BBQ and blues destination that begun as a 30’ X 30’ shed in 2001 was the victim of a tragic late-night fire. Today, The Shed is up and running, but signs of devastation are still wide spread.

Today, New Orleans filmmaker Jason Rhein, who also serves as the bassist for local rock act Rotary Downs, is raising funds for a documentary project on The Shed’s unique origins and struggle to overcome these imposing odds. Have a look at the inspiring trailer below and learn more about Rhein’s endeavor, visit Fire at ‘The Shed’: A Family Story of Blues and Barbeque and the Blues on Kickstarter.
