YouTube du Jour: Olivia Tremor Control

Ruston’s Olivia Tremor Control, along with Neutral Milk Hotel and Apples in Stereo, were the three first psychedelic indie rock bands that came to be known as part of the Elephant 6 collective. As “I Have Been Floated” from 1999 Black Foliage demonstrates, the band is defined by its pop and experimental impulses, which aren’t at odds with each other as much as you might expect. The band took an extended break in 2000, reunited to play All Tomorrow’s Parties in 2005, and reunited last year. Tonight, they play One Eyed Jacks at 10 p.m.

(I wish we had proper video of the band, but all the live footage online is of such poor sound quality that it’s almost impossible to appreciate OTC based on them.)
