YouTube du Jour: Rehab

Musicians routinely complain about record companies, radio stations and writers who focus on genres, and insist that music’s just music. That’s part of a complicated discussion, but bands such as Rehab suggest there’s some truth to it. The Georgia-based band mixes hip-hop, country and rock in a way that addresses what it’s like to be young, white and southern. Clearly, their blend speaks to people, as the more than three million YouTube views of the band’s 2008 hit “Bartender” attests (watch for the cameo of Danny Trejo from Machete and countless other movies). The band has a new album, Gullible’s Travels, and it plays the House of Blues’ Parish tonight with Moonshine Bandits opening. Tickets are on sale now.
