YouTube du Jour: San Fermin in Nueva Orleans

Every year, daring men and women tempt fate during the San Fermin Festival in Pamplona, Spain, participating in the encierros—the running of the bulls. There’s nothing funny about the event; in the past 100 years there have 15 deaths during the runnings, most recently last year.

Okay, well it is pretty funny though when you transport the encierro to Vieja Nueva Orleans, specifically the Three-Legged Dog Bar in the French Quarter; keep the iconic costumes of all-white pants and shirts with a red waistband and red handkerchief around the neck; replace the real bulls with only slightly more benign Big Easy Rollergirls with horned helmets, plastic bats and rollerblades; and finish the running not at a corral, but—you guessed it—another bar (Ernst Cafe). Sangria, Stella Artois and Spanish wine will be available at the beginning and end of the running to ensure a true New Orleans-style (read: boozy) running. The bulls let loose at 8 a.m. tomorrow morning at the Three-Legged Dog on the corner of Conti and Burgundy. Run at your own risk.
