YouTube du Jour: Trombone Shorty

Trombone Shorty spent Fat Tuesday in Washington, D.C. playing an all-star blues show at the White House with B.B. King, Mick Jagger, Jeff Beck, Keb Mo, Booker T. and more. The show is being edited for a special on PBS, but here’s Shorty’s solo spot singing “St. James Infirmary Blues.”

In “St. James Infirmary” news, I’m sad to see that Rob Walker is bringing his SJI blog to a close. He did an SJI piece for us in 2008 (not online yet, unfortunately), and his blog documented his obsession with the song. On the upside, SJI obsessives can continue to explore the song’s journey through popular consciousness and culture at Robert W. Harwood’s “I Went Down to St. James Infirmary” blog.
