Alex Backs Up Buffett and Friends

Although Tropical Storm Alex is projected to remain near the Texas coast of the Gulf of Mexico, the Jimmy Buffett and Friends show scheduled for Thursday has been backed up to Sunday, July 11. Portions of the show featuring Buffett, Kenny Chesney, the Zac Brown Band, Allen Toussaint, Sonny Landreth and Jesse Winchester were scheduled to be broadcast live on CMT from the beach at Gulf Shores, Alabama – the whole show’s to be simulcast on Sirius and XM – but concerns about a possible storm surge prompted organizers to reschedule the event. The Montgomery Gentry show and fireworks display also planned for the weekend will continue as scheduled.

Because the show is free, it’s not a fundraiser, nor is it intended to draw attention to the effects of the BP oil disaster. Quite the opposite. ”There are always welcome breaks in every storm, but the unfortunate reality is that this disaster is not going away for a while,” Buffett said in a press release. “But a few hours of fun, void of the constant reminders of the situation, is a good thing, and that is basically what I do.”

According to Alabama Gov. Bob Riley. “Their music will lift up spirits and help encourage visitors to come here and enjoy our world famous Southern hospitality.”
