Roadwarriors Anders Osborne & Honey Island Swamp Band to Rock Homefront

Season’s greetings… Often overlooked, the holidays are arguably the New Orleans music scene’s best kept secret. As touring schedules wind down, the road for many of the city’s finest musicians leads to the streets where it all began. But there’s more to the holiday homecoming than spreading good tidings and great joy: The excitement comes from the unexpected collaborations that come to life on the stage.

In the last three years, Anders Osborne and the Honey Island Swamp Band have rounded the country nearly non-stop, winning over fans with their gritty, blue-collar jams and fierce, funky rhythms. Over the next two weeks, these roadwarriors have a hearty welcome in store for the hometown faithful. And lucky you… OffBeat’s giving away tickets to catch ’em all!

It begins this Saturday, December 1 with the country-tinged grooves of the Honey Island Swamp Band at Tipitina’s. Subdudes frontman Tommy Malone is set to open the show. With close ties to the Radiators, the HISB have recently been begun collaborating Malone, having made his acquaintance at the behest of his brother, Rads frontman/guitarist Dave Malone. Expect sit-ins and new songs during each set, both of the acoustic and electric variety. For what to expect when… Fill out the form below for a pair of tickets and the chance to find out. But first check out this video of the Honey Island Swamp Band doing the fan-favorite “One Shot.”

The second part of this holiday roots rock giveaway will take place the following weekend, December 7-8, again at Tipitina’s for Anders Osborne’s first annual Holiday Spectacular. As it’s name suggest, the lineup is spectacular. On Friday, December 7 special guests Papa John Gros, Lee Oskar from the Lowrider Band, Lafayette son Marc Broussard, and North Mississippi badass Luther Dickinson will take their turns sharing the stage with Osborne. The following night, Saturday, December 8, Dickinson is back in the mix, this time alongside bandmate Shannon McNally, and the Bonerama Horns (Mark Mullins, Craig Klein and Greg Hicks) and Galactic’s Stanton Moore will enter the fray. By filling out this form, you’ll also be entered into a drawing to win a pair of tickets to each of these shows. Need convincing, this clip of Osborne and Dickinson cutting up last December should do the trick:
