Photo Gallery: Uptown Saturday Night feat. Tank and the Bangas, Zena Moses and Rue Fiya

Last weekend, OffBeat checked out the brand new monthly series at Tipitina’s, “Uptown Saturday Night.” We were blown away by the rising new, soulful talent featured at the second installment of the USN series for their July edition. The series aims to highlight young local artists rooted in the tenants of soul, funk, R&B and hip-hop, and pair them with some of New Orleans’ longtime favorites in these genres.

Saturday, July 27 we witnessed Tarriona “Tank” Ball nearly tear the roof off Tips with her powerful chops, down-to-earth songwriting and explosive stage charisma. She and her band, the Bangas put on quite a show and impressed us all without a single cover song in the set.

Soul-jazz vocalist Zena Moses and the funky Rue Fiya opened the night with their interpretations of a few timeless soul classics as well as some their own original music. DJ RQaway of the NOLA GO DJs collective kept the night paced on the 1’s and 2’s.
