Susan Cowsill‘s “Covered in Vinyl” is back tonight (Thursday, August 22) with a twist: Instead of covering every song on a beloved album from the ’60s or ’70s, this time she’s moving up to those glory days of synth pop and MTV: On tap tonight will be Tears for Fears’ Songs From the Big Chair, marking the series’ re-launch at One Eyed Jacks. And since the show happens just before the club’s weekly ’80s night, she promises to sneak in some bonus tracks from the same time frame.

Cowsill and her band, anchored by drummer Russ Broussard, did Covered in Vinyl for five years at Carrolton Station, coverering everybody from Sly & the Family Stone to Bruce Springsteen to the Beatles.
A long cast of singers and musicians have joined in for different albums; one memorable night came during Jazz Fest 2012 when her brother Bob Cowsill sat in for the Beatles’ White Album— all 30 songs of it, including the un-coverable “Revolution 9”– then threw in both sides of the “Hey Jude/Revolution” single for an encore.The series was officially laid to rest that year with another double album, Elton John’s Goodbye Yellow Brick Road.
“Covered in Vinyl” will now continue as a regular series, hopefully getting around to some of our own ’80s favorites sooner or later (consider this a request for XTC’s English Settlement). Meanwhile, come along tonight and let it all out as Cowsill and company aim to put you head over heels.
