Paul Sanchez & Friends Play For Peace Day on September 20

A good friend to OffBeat and one of the city’s best songwriters, Paul Sanchez will be playing for peace at City Park on Friday evening, September 20. To commemorate the United Nations’ International Day of Peace (last year Stevie Wonder headlined the international telecast) which takes place this Saturday, September 21, Sanchez will bring his Rolling Road Show to City Park beginning at 6 p.m.

Paul Sanchez & The Rolling Road Show host New Orleans 2013 International Peace Day Concert

Paul’s group is the perfect musical example of many communities coming together in harmony. Joining him in this line-up will be singer/songwriters Alex McMurray, Debbie Davis, Arsene DeLay and Antoine Reynaldo Diel; other unconfirmed names are likely as well (The Road Show has a different line-up at every show and many notables have sat in). Much of this roster has been involved in Nine Lives, so songs from that musical should likely be done, along with any other tunes the writers bring to the table. We hope to hear Sanchez’s festive “Stew Called New Orleans” and McMurray’s rousing “I Will Never Be Alone,” which closed the group’s set at Jazz Fest. Music runs till 8 p.m. at Popp’s Bandstand in City Park near the Morning Call coffee shop, and best of all… it’s free.

Last year’s Peace Day concert in New Orleans found Grateful Dead drummer Mickey Hart sitting in with George Porter Jr., Billy Iuso, Alfred “Uganda” Roberts and Papa Mali, and it looked like this:
