Aaron Neville Guests On Comedy Central’s Colbert Report, Announces Holiday Blessings Fundraiser

New Orleans tradition is all about giving back to the community, especially traditions in music that are perhaps most evident during the winter holidays. This week, national television is taking notice. Just yesterday, ABC World News with Diane Sawyer featured a special on Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrew’s Friends of Shorty Foundation and its comprehensive music education program in New Orleans. And tonight, Wednesday, December 18, Comedy Central’s Colbert Report will feature Aaron Neville on its 10:30 p.m. CT program to introduce his “Holiday Blessings.”

Of course, Neville’s appearance with Colbert tonight will not be without live music though; the New Orleans vocal legend will perform the Christmas classic, “Silent Night,” as Colbert’s special musical guest. Neville will also present his holiday charity program, created in partnership with the Children’s Health Fund to raise funds for children in need of medical care for asthma and other conditions. Neville himself lives with asthma, a serious condition for anyone, but especially for a professional vocalist.

According to a statement the fund issued recently, “as a longtime sufferer from asthma, Aaron understands the importance of every child having a doctor they can count on.” Donations contributed to his “Holiday Blessings” fundraiser will help ensure that children in poverty receive the care they need to be  healthy this holiday season and in the year ahead. “Holiday Blessings” is not a one-time event, but rather an ongoing campaign online through the holiday season, making it easy for almost anyone anywhere to contribute.

This year’s “Holiday Blessings” goal is $20,000, with suggested donations at two levels; $100 and $35. A $100 donation will ensure that a homeless child see a pediatrician, while a $35 donation will purchase asthma medication for a child in need. More information about the national Children Health Fund is available at www.ChildrensHealthFund.org, or click here to make a donation now.
