Earth, Wind & Fire, Holiday (CBS)

Earth, Wind & Fire’s brand of funk was always mixed romance with spirituality, so a Christmas album from the band would seem a no-brainer.

Sure enough, this disc gets seasonally festive without departing a bit from their classic formula.

There’s even a remake of “September” (now of course called “December”), which, despite the new lyrics, sounds just like the 30-year-old hit. A new original, “Happy Seasons,” has a retro-disco feel that’s too good-natured to resist.

Philip Bailey’s falsetto gets glossy on a six-minute “O Come All Ye Faithful,” but elsewhere there’s groove to match the sentiment: “Little Drummer Boy” is built around their trademark kalimba; and “Sleigh Ride” is a close cousin to their ’70s version of the Beatles’ “Got to Get You Into My Life.”

If you need to funkify your holiday mix (and you’ve already got the Christmas EP that George Porter, Jr. released in ’12), this will do fine.
