The Meters Nominated For Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame…Again!

The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame announced its list of nominations for inductees to its venerated establishment, and New Orleans once again features prominently. For not the first, nor second, or even third but fourth time, the Meters name is on the list.

As reported by Keith Spera for the Advocate, the funk legends were first nominated in 1993 and again in 2013 and 2014. “The 2018 inductees — anywhere from five to seven names from the list of nominees — will likely be announced in December,” he writes. The Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is located in Cleveland, Ohio and was established in 1983. According to the organization’s website, over 900 ballots are sent to historians, members of the music industry, and artists including every past inductee. The five performers receiving the most votes become that year’s induction class, but an addition made to the induction process in 2012 has opened up voting to fans. The top five vote-getters in the public poll form one ballot, which is weighted the same as the rest of the submitted ballots. Cast your vote here.

The Meters Are Right On Time

In addition to the Meters, nominees include Bon Jovi, Kate Bush, the Cars, Depeche Mode, Dire Straits, Eurythmics, J. Geils Band, Judas Priest, LL Cool J, MC5, the Moody Blues, Radiohead, Rage Against the Machine, Rufus featuring Chaka Khan, Nina Simone, Sister Rosetta Tharpe, Link Wray and the Zombies.
