Trombone Shorty announces fall tour dates in support of new album

Troy “Trombone Shorty” Andrews is gearing up to release his Blue Note Records debut, Parking Lot Symphony, this Friday, April 28. With such a momentous occasion the horizon, it’s no surprise that he’s used the beginning of this week to announce a new series of tour dates for the fall.

Kicking off on September 14, the fall leg of Trombone Shorty & Orleans Avenue’s tour will bring them through much of the Southeast, Northeast and Midwest. Along the way, the band will be supported by Dumpstaphunk, The Record Company and Vintage Trouble for different dates. These shows will come just a few weeks after they wrap up a previously announced co-headlining tour with soul outfit St. Paul & The Broken Bones.

Of course, the first big celebrations of Shorty’s new album will come in New Orleans, where the trombonist and bandleader extraordinaire is set to play a number of gigs around Jazz Fest. The biggest of those performances will take place when Shorty closes out the Acura Stage on the event’s final day—Sunday, May 7—for the fifth year in a row. It’s a prestigious honor that has inspired OffBeat to declare him the “New King of Jazz Fest” in our 2017 Jazz Fest Bible.

Parking Lot Symphony won’t be available until this Friday, but you can check out OffBeat’s review of the new record here. Trombone Shorty & Orleans have also released two singles, the new original “Dirty Water” and a cover of Allen Toussaint’s “Here Come The Girls.”
