It’s official—Kentucky, Louisville, Ohio State and Kansas are coming to town for the NCAA Final Four, and so are Kiss, the Black Keys, Jimmy Buffett and more. Starting Friday at 4 p.m., “The Big Dance Concert Series” brings free shows to Woldenberg Park starting with Kiss on Friday night. Saturday the Black Keys will headline a show that runs from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., and Jimmy Buffett tops Sunday’s bill, which runs from 3 p.m. to 10 p.m. Other performers on the weekend’s bill include Dr. John, the Avett Brothers, Blondie, the funky Meters, Big Sam’s Funky Nation, Cowboy Mouth and Vintage Trouble. We’ll update times and days when we know more, but we won’t be surprised if Dr. John performs on Saturday since the Black Keys’ Dan Auerbach produced his excellent upcoming album, Locked Down.
… In other concert news, Herbie Hancock will headline a sunrise show in Congo Square on April 30 to celebrate International Jazz Day. Terence Blanchard, Ellis Marsalis, Dr. Michael White, Kermit Ruffins and the Treme Brass Band will also perform. Hancock plans to perform a version of “Watermelon Man” with high school students from around the world who will be linked via the Internet.
