Soundclash, New Orleans’ premier beat battle, emcee showcase and cornerstone of the city’s hip-hop community heads to the Hi-ho Lounge tomorrow night (February 21) with arguably the hottest bill of its four-plus year history as local climbers Jay Jones, Tacaloc, C.I.T.Y. lead the way for scene stalwart Nesby Phips and iconic producer Ski Beatz.
Before doing what the do they do best, Ski Beatz and Phips will server as judges in the night’s open-mic competition. Phips, whose latest mixtape 0017th: Hollygrove Ain’t Enough stands as one of the coldest releases bar none any in recent months, is no stranger to the monthly showcase which also serves and a networking hub for budding industry professionals, while Ski Beatz, whose beats laced several cuts on Jay-Z’s hard-hitting masterpiece Reasonable Doubt, has also signed-off on tracks from NOLA rhyme-slingers Curren$y, Jay Electronica, Dee-1 and Phips as well as scores more from made men such as NaS, Mos Def, Big Punisher and long list of others.
