Fifth Annual NOLA Veggie Fest Returns to New Orleans Healing Center May 11-12

Well if you feel like you got your fill of boudin, seafood and pulled pork at Jazz Fest over the past two weeks, the 5th Annual New Orleans Veggie Festival is right on time to round out our diets with a whole weekend this week dedicated to all-vegetable cuisine featuring local produce and all of its prepared varieties. Who knew you could eat so extravagantly without any meat?

But lest you think it’s just an all-out, tree-hugging vegan fest, this is New Orleans after all, so that means there will be gads of good music and even some burlesque to be had. There’s so much to see and do at this fun, family friendly event, that “veggie festers” spend the entire day sampling products, perusing food vendors, attending cooking demos, listening to speakers, watching informational films, hearing live music, and learning all about the health benefits of a plant-based diet. If you’re interested in healthy eating, sustainable living, compassion for animals or simply enjoying excellent cuisine made with locally-grown organic fruits and veggies, then NOLA Veggie Fest is for you — offering something for everyone and all are welcome: Vegans, vegetarians, omnivores and carnivores alike!

Moreover, NOLA Veggie Fest is a project of the Humane Society of Louisiana, a locally operated non-profit charity leading the fight against cruelty to animals statewide, adding yet another good reason to get your greens on this weekend.

The official NOLA Veggie Fest after-party, a fundraiser for The Humane Society of Louisiana, will take place on Saturday, May 11 at Café Istanbul (inside the New Orleans Healing Center) from 7pm – 1am. The evening event features an all-star cast of performers including: Chegadao, Tri-Fi with special guest Johnny Sketch, belly dancers, as well as Ginger Licious and The Lady Lucerne of Slow Burn Burlesque.
