Dave Matthews And Tim Reynolds Kick-Off 2014 At New Saenger Theatre

If the Saenger Theatre’s show schedule keeps booming like it has during its re-opening season, the restored movie palace turned performing arts theatre is going to rise right back up to its status as the New Orleans venue with the most memorable concerts. Today, Dave Matthews and Tim Reynolds announced that they will play two shows at the Saenger on January 15 and 16, 2014. And if the attendance is anything like this year’s Jazz Fest turn-out for Dave Matthews Band, the Saenger can expect a full house.

But the January concerts will be a unique, more intimate program than say, the Jazz Fest performance of this past spring. Rather than a full Dave Matthews Band show, these two special evenings will feature Matthews and longtime collaborator, Tim Reynolds together. So far, New Orleans is the only city announced hosting the pair’s concert dates. The duo has released three live double-CDs together: 1999’s multi-Platinum Live At Luther College, Live At Radio City (2007) and Live In Las Vegas, which debuted at No. 1 on Billboard’s Top Modern Rock/Alternative Albums and Top Rock Albums charts in 2010.

In 2003, Matthews released his solo debut, Some Devil, which Reynolds played on. A multi-instrumentalist, Reynolds has also released a series of his own solo albums with and without his TR3 Tim Reynolds Trio since 1984, and performed on numerous Dave Matthews Band albums, including Away From The World, which entered the Billboard 200 at No. 1 and was named by Rolling Stone named as one of the Top 50 Albums of 2012. Matthews and Reynolds have been close friends and musical collaborators for over a decade. Something tells us this January concerts will be less jam-rocky and more focused on musicianship and the songwriting skills both artists possess.

Tickets for both shows go on sale this Saturday, September 28 at 11 a.m. — which also happens to be the grand re-opening day of the Saenger Theatre, long-awaited since its post-Katrina renovation. Tickets will be available online or at the Saenger box office (temporarily located at the Mahalia Jackson Theater until the Saenger box office completes construction). Or, if you are a Dave Matthews Band official “Warehouse” fan club member, you can snag the best seats before sales open up to the public via Matthews’ website here beginning Tuesday, September 24.
