Shhhhh…. mild-mannered, crazy-haired Preservation Hall Jazz Band recording engineer Earl Scioneaux III’s madcap alter ego the Madd Wikkid is going to be bringing down the hallowed halls of preservation this Saturday night (September 28) to celebrate the release of his latest mixtape Don’t Tell Nobody.

A mind-bending, booty-popping four-song mashup of NOLA-grown funk, soul, hip-hop, R&B and bounce, Don’t Tell Nobody splices Scioneaux’s self-styled synth and drum machine loops into samples ranging from Wheezy to Cheeky to Juvi to Mac, the Meters and K-Doe to Mystikal, Mannie, DJs Jimi and Jubilee, P-N-C and then some. Think of it as Girl Talk meets Zapp & Roger with a triggerman beat and some twisted breaks. Or… just go ahead and push play for yourself.

Don’t Tell Nobody, which is currently available for download via SoundCloud, marks the Madd Wikkid’s first outing since July’s Get Brassy, a brass band-themed tribute to Daft Punk’s megahit “Get Lucky” that carried on in the same vein as Wikkid’s previous album, the underground sensation, Brassft Punk (2012). Prior to that, Scioneaux delivered Electronola (2010), an endeavor that fused the sounds of Crescent City funk and jazz with electronica.
Similar to Brassft Punk’s release, Preservation Hall will serve as Don’t Tell Nobody’s drop-day party spot. Doors open at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday night and the music will begin at midnight. Tickets are $10, available online at Ticketfly and, if still available, can be purchased at the door. DJ Matt Scot will open and close the show.
