The New Orleans Suspects will be celebrating the release of their newest album Ouroboros at the Maple Leaf on October 17.

The band will be promoting their IndieGogo campaign to fund their next project at the show as well.
The Suspects, identified as the “oldest new band in town” by Brett Milano in the October issue of OffBeat, enjoyed success with their previous albums that featured their take on New Orleans standards, but they took the leap to an all-original song list for Ouroboros.
The shake up in songs has been good for the band:
“This is making me feel like I’m 20 again,” says Reggie Scanlan, for 33 years the bassist of the Radiators. “It’s challenging and it’s fun; I’m learning a lot of things that I didn’t know beforehand. At my age, when somebody presents you with an opportunity like that, it’s a godsend. My playing has improved dramatically in the last three years with these guys. We’re playing music that I’m unfamiliar with, and I’m loving that.”
“You want to hear ‘Big Chief,’ we can always play that,” Eckert says of the Earl King/Professor Longhair chestnut. “We know it, we’ve learned from the best, and we can play it right. Those kind of songs were coming up a lot when we first got into gig mode—we were touring, trying to get a repertoire and doing the New Orleans cover stuff. But this is our first attempt at showing what the band can really do.”
