I was glad to find this article while looking for a CD with “Morning Star” on it. Sugar Boy had a great band, great entertainers, good songs. I think “Morning Star” is one of his very best. I have a 45rpm version of it! I was a high school student 1957-60 and Sugar Boy played at out Sr Prom. I'm glad he's doing well.

I too remember this great musican. “Morning Star” was a nice song – a simple yet romantic tune which was great for making out with your girlfriend ;-). Several years ago I asked the R&R Hall of Fame in Ohio to include Sugar Boy, but they never replied back. I guess his being a local Louisiana star had something to do with that. Wish someone would release the song again nationally. A big named star might get a hit out of it. PS: I  was in George Hillard’s class at BRHS.

I remember Sugarboy Crawford at the “Joy Lounge” in Gretna La on Huey P Long Street. I was a 16 year old with my uncle’s draft card to get in. He had Batman on Tenor and Big Boy Miles on Trombone. I played Tenor, and my band “The Belmonts” work on weekends there too. We looked up to and really dug Sugarboy Crawford. We learned Danny Boy off of his record. Very soulful, everything else is 2nd best to his arrangement. I wonder if Sugarboy is still around.
