Irony or In-Joke?

Once HBO’s Treme airs, we’re going to need to open the Bureau of Oddities, In-Jokes, Errors and Otherwise. One to watch for in the pilot (this isn’t a spoiler, or not much of one):

Spud McConnell makes an appearance as a WWOZ deejay. He’s not playing himself; he plays the deejay whose show precedes that of Steve Zahn’s Davis McAlary. In real life, McConnell was a major part of the United Radio Broadcasters of New Orleans – radio personalities from a number of the city’s radio stations who came together to share information after the storm. Their broadcast was aired on most stations, and WWOZ was one of the few spots on the radio where you didn’t find McConnell at that time. With Treme‘s help, he finally made it.
