Walter “Wolfman” Washington toasts 75 years of life this month, most of which have been devoted to music. The blues guitarist, singer and New Orleans native has a discography stretching through four decades and remains a busy live performer.

As OffBeat’s John Wirt wrote in September 2018, “Turning 75 on December 20, Washington has been in New Orleans music since he joined the Dew Drop Inn house band in 1959. In the 1960s, he toured with Lee Dorsey and Irma Thomas. Washington also worked with David Lastie’s Taste of New Orleans and he was Johnny Adams’ “personal” guitarist for more than a decade. In 2017, Washington marked the 30th anniversary of his own band, the Roadmasters.” For all of those reasons and many, many more, Walter “Wolfman” Washington will be honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award in Music by OffBeat.

Other Lifetime Achievement Awards in other categories will be awarded to the following people:

Lifetime Achievement in Music Education: John Snyder
Lifetime Achievement in Music Business: Doris Bastiansen of the Kerry Irish Pub
Positive Vibrations HeartBeat Award (Musician): Dr. Michael White
Positive Vibrations HeartBeat Award (Culture Bearer): Herreast Harrison

Wolfman and the honorees above will be presented with their awards during OffBeat’s Best of the Beat Business Awards ceremony on January 24, 2019 at Loyola University’s Roussel Hall. This event is invitation only.

However, all are invited to January 31’s Best of the Beat Awards party at Generations Hall!
