Frenchmen Street’s Yuki Izakaya to Close After Nine Years

Popular Frenchmen Street establishment Yuki Izakaya will close its doors for good by the time the sun comes up tomorrow.

The Japanese restaurant, bar and music hot spot, which is located on Frenchmen Street near the intersection of Chartres Street, has announced that Halloween will mark its final day in operation.

A since deleted post on Yuki Izakaya’s Facebook page read:

“Dear Patrons, Friends of Yuki Iazakaya:

It’s been 9 years. Since that winter’s evening late in 2007 when Yuki Izakaya served it’s first bowl of ramen and cup of sake, the doors of New Orleans only izakaya have looked onto Frenchmen Street night after night. Bands and DJs played, more bowls of ramen were served, sake was spilled. All the while hundreds of Lucky Cats passively looked down on the scene.

It is with sorrow to announce that Yuki Izakaya’s run has come to an end. Halloween Night, 2016 will be the bookend to that first night in 2007. It is simply time to move on.”

No detailed explanation was provided in the post, but it should be noted that the establishment’s owners—chef Yuki Yamaguchi and filmmaker Aaron Walker—recently opened a new restaurant and bar in the Bywater called N7. The eatery serves Japanese-infused  takes on French bistro fare, and earned earned some serious accolades earlier this year when Bon Appetit magazine named it one of America’s ten best new restaurants for 2016.
